Video to GIF Converter
Turn a moment from any video into a looping GIF for chats, social posts, docs and emails. Set where the clip starts, how long it runs, the frame rate and the width – then convert. A high-quality colour palette is generated for your clip so the GIF looks clean, not grainy.
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and AVI are all supported. Conversion runs privately in your browser with no watermark.

Making GIFs that look good and stay small
GIF is an old format limited to 256 colours per frame with no real compression, so file size grows fast. Three settings control it: width (480 px is a good balance), frame rate (10–15 fps looks smooth for most content) and duration (keep it under 6 seconds for messaging). Our converter uses a two-pass process – first it analyses your clip to build the best 256-colour palette, then it renders the frames with that palette and light dithering – which is why the result looks far better than a naïve conversion.
When to use MP4 instead
If you are posting to a website or a platform that supports video, a short looping MP4 is 5–10× smaller than a GIF at far higher quality. Many sites (including X and Reddit) convert uploaded GIFs to video anyway. Use GIF when it must work everywhere – email, Slack, docs, forums – and use the GIF to MP4 tool when size or quality matters more.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a GIF from a video?
Add the video, set the start time and duration, choose a frame rate and width, then click Make GIF.
Why is my GIF so large?
Lower the width to 320–480 px, reduce the frame rate to 10–12 fps and keep the duration short. Each of these has a big effect on size.
Is there a watermark?
No. The GIF is clean.
What is the maximum duration?
30 seconds per GIF. For longer loops, MP4 is a better format.
Does it work with iPhone videos (MOV)?
Yes – MOV, MP4, MKV, WebM and AVI are all accepted.
Is the video uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser.
