Why use the Convert Now compress image online

Target size in KB

Need exactly 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB? Type it in and the compressor hits the target.

Smart quality

Perceptual compression keeps photos sharp while cutting 60–90% of the size.

Any format

Keep the original format or switch to JPG, PNG or WebP during compression.

Private & unlimited

No upload, no account, no daily limit, no watermark.

How image compression works

Photos contain far more information than the eye can perceive. JPG and WebP compression discard the least visible detail – tiny colour variations, high-frequency noise – and store the rest efficiently. Turning the quality slider down tells the encoder to discard more. At 80–85 you typically lose nothing you can see and gain a 3–5× smaller file. PNG cannot be compressed this way, so for PNG inputs the tool reduces size by converting to a more efficient format if you allow it, or by trimming dimensions when you set a KB target.

Compressing to an exact size

Forms for passports, visas, exams, job portals and government services often specify a maximum in kilobytes. Enter that number in the Target size box. The compressor searches for the highest quality that fits under your limit; if quality alone cannot get there, it gently reduces the dimensions until it does. You will see the resulting size next to each file before downloading.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 100 KB?

Type 100 in the Target size (KB) box, add your image and click Compress. The tool automatically finds the best quality and dimensions to fit under 100 KB.

Will compression reduce quality?

At the default setting the loss is invisible. Very aggressive targets (e.g. 20 KB for a large photo) will show some softening, which is unavoidable at that size.

Can I compress PNG images?

Yes. PNG is compressed losslessly by default; to make it much smaller choose JPG or WebP as the output format, or set a KB target.

Does it compress HEIC photos from iPhone?

Yes – HEIC files are decoded in the browser and saved as compressed JPG.

Is there a file or daily limit?

No. Compress up to 100 images per batch as often as you like.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Compression happens on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
