Which image format should you choose?

JPG is the safe default for photographs and anything you will email, print or upload to a form. PNG keeps transparent backgrounds and crisp edges, which makes it right for logos, screenshots and graphics. WebP gives you JPG-like photos and PNG-like transparency at roughly 25–35% smaller file sizes, so it is the best choice for websites. HEIC and AVIF are modern capture and delivery formats that compress even better but still open in fewer apps, which is why the most common request we see is converting them back to JPG.

How the converter works

Your browser already knows how to decode most image formats. Convert Now uses that built-in decoder (plus a small HEIC library that loads only when you need it) to draw each image onto an off-screen canvas and re-encode it in the format you choose, at the quality you set. Because everything happens on your device, conversion starts instantly, works offline once the page has loaded, and nothing you convert is ever stored anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image converter really free?

Yes. There are no limits on the number of files, no sign-up and no watermark. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my images uploaded to your server?

No. Conversion happens inside your browser using JavaScript. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tools will still work.

Can I convert many images at once?

Yes. Select or drag in up to 100 files at a time. When they are done, download them one by one or click Download all to get a ZIP.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP is lossy, but at the default quality of 90 the difference is invisible for almost every photo. You can raise the slider to 100 for maximum fidelity.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (macOS and iOS), Samsung Internet and Brave. AVIF input needs Safari 16 or newer on Apple devices.
