How age is actually calculated
Age is counted in completed years, then completed months, then remaining days – the same way official forms expect it. That sounds obvious, but it is why simply dividing the number of days by 365 gives the wrong answer: leap years and months of unequal length mean a straight division drifts by several days over a lifetime. This calculator walks the calendar properly, borrowing days from the previous month when needed, so the result matches what a registrar would write down.
Why the "age at a date" field matters
Plenty of rules do not care how old you are today. School entry is usually judged at the start of the academic year, junior sports leagues use a cut-off date, some visas assess age on the date of application, and pension milestones fall on a specific birthday. Set the second field to that date and you get the age that will actually be used, with no mental arithmetic and no off-by-one errors.
Interesting totals
The calculator also shows your age in total months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, plus the day of the week you were born on. These are exact counts derived from the calendar rather than averages, so the day-of-week result is genuinely the weekday of your birth.
