PNG files are larger than JPG, but they preserve every pixel exactly and support transparency. If you are converting ordinary photos for sharing, the HEIC to JPG tool will give you a smaller file; choose PNG when accuracy matters more than size.

When PNG is the right choice for HEIC files

Screenshots saved as HEIC on iOS, app-store artwork, UI mock-ups and photos you plan to edit further all benefit from PNG. Because PNG is lossless, you can open, edit and re-save the file as many times as you like without the gradual degradation that happens to JPG. PNG also supports an alpha channel, so if the source HEIC has transparency (rare, but possible with edited images) it is preserved.

Size expectations

A 12-megapixel HEIC of around 2 MB will typically become a PNG of 15–25 MB, because PNG cannot use the perceptual tricks that photo formats rely on. That is expected. If the resulting PNG is too large for its purpose, run it through the Resize tool or convert to WebP, which offers lossless mode at a much smaller size.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIC to PNG conversion lossless?

Yes. PNG stores the decoded pixels exactly, so no further quality is lost after the HEIC is decoded.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC is a highly compressed photo format; PNG is a lossless format designed for graphics. Large sizes are normal. Use JPG or WebP if you need a small file.

Does it keep transparency?

If the source image contains an alpha channel it is preserved. Ordinary camera photos have no transparency.

Can I convert several HEIC files to PNG at once?

Yes – up to 100 per batch, with a ZIP download.

Does this work on Windows without extra software?

Yes. The HEIC decoder is part of the web page, so any browser on Windows can convert without installing the HEIF extension.
